What's been your favourite Olympic moment?
After two weeks of intense competition for 302 gold medals, what's been your most inspiring Olympics moment?
FRED FROM WA SAYS:01:00:03 AM Wednesday, 27th August, 2008
My high points were Steve Hooker's and Matthew Mitcham's Golds. Both against the odds. One low point was all the Chinese underage gymnasts and the simply awful judging in that discipline.
LUI XIAO CHING - PROFESSOR OF CHINESE HISTORY FROM HONG KONG SAYS:03:32:29 PM Monday, 25th August, 2008
LIU FROM SYDNEY. If you want to criticise any people or any nation for colonial behaviour, criticise the Chinese Government for colonising Xinjiang and Tibet. At the same time, get your history right. The Chinese throughout history never appreciated antiques. OLD STUFF IS OLD AND USELESS ACCORDING TO CHINESE HISTORY. It was not until the Europeans arrived in China, that the Chinese traded antiques for European goods, thinking the Europeans were stupid. That’s right. Even the Jia Gu Wen - Oracle Bones, were saved by Europeans, not Chinese. The Chinese were using the bones in herbal formula oblivious to the value of the ancient script found on Oracle Bones, in explaining the history of Chinese written language. Get your facts right, ARCHAEOLOGY IS A WESTERN INVENTION. WHAT THE ANCIENT CHINESE WERE GOOD AT WAS BURNING BOOKS AND REMOVING FROM HISTORY THE KNOWLEDGE OF PAST DYNASTIES.
NED KELLY FROM HEAVEN SAYS:03:21:50 PM Monday, 25th August, 2008
Sorry to tell you SBS, but Rogge did not declare the Beijing Olympic Games as the “Best Games Ever”. Instead, to be politically correct with the feelings of the people of the world who cherish freedom, he instead said: “These Games Have Been Truly Excellent”. I’m quite surprised at your poor journalism, and would appreciate a correction. I did enjoy the events at the Olympics and the Opening and Closing ceremony, but acknowledge that now knowing how much money the Chinese government spent, I do question the ethics of this expenditure. Also, look at the criminal behaviour of the Chinese Public Security and the suppression of the Chinese people who were bullied into compliance when they applied to demonstrate. I can’t accept this. Its inhuman. I don’t care what pro-chinese bloggers have stated at the improvements in human rights. I can’t see any. What I do see, is human rights for anyone who toes government line. This is not human rights. It is the behaviour of cowards.
LEE FROM SYDNEY SAYS:03:21:50 PM Monday, 25th August, 2008
China has been an excellent host for the Olympics regardless of its internal issues with politics, human rights etc. After all, these are the issues which the Chinese people have to decide for themselves and not with any other country's interference. Every country has their own history and issues, look at the violation of human rights by the US at Guantonamo Bay and the invasion of Iraq without UN approval and the discrimination issues with black and white for example. In Australia, we also have our own issues, what about the damages we had done in the past to the Aboriginal people, and not too long ago we still had the discriminatory white Australia policy and we all thought it was ok, where was the human right? How would we feel if the US president keeps telling us how to run Australia and decide what's right or wrong, good or bad for us, I am assuming most Aussies will just say NO and tell the Amercians to mind their own business, right ? Can we not for once just enjoy and appreciate what China has put on for the rest of the world as the host and leave her alone to deal with her own issues?

i just read the article called"the best games ever", it is no doubt that the "author" is attacking the Beijing Olympic with the dirty words, even curse in the last sentence. it is western syndrome to be afraid of China's improvement. We have absolutely different ideology in nature with western people.however, they want us to do what they think right. Why do not you critise yourselves about the pollution of the second industry revolution, the colonialism, the antiques in your national museums that do not belong to you......
is the "author", a hypocrite, afraid that the nightmare will turn back to you because of your words??
JT FROM SYDNEY SAYS:12:38:13 PM Monday, 25th August, 2008
Despite China, US, Russia and the usual top ten nations's dominance over the medal tally, it's great to see there's been more medals won by other nations perhaps with smaller population and less sports training funding compared to the other leading nations.
RONICE FROM PERTH SAYS:11:55:19 AM Monday, 25th August, 2008
Thank you SBS for showing some of the table tennis, Badminton, gymnastics, and other fringe sports without the frenzied comments from various commentators and presenters of the commercial station.
PAUL FROM CANBERRA SAYS:10:14:48 AM Monday, 25th August, 2008
The end of those QANTAS, Coles and Telstra ads was probably my favourite moment throughout the olympics.
Ah, but seriously, I must say that I did get the warm and fuzzies the moment that I knew I wouldn't need to watch Prime TV anymore.
PHILLIP FROM SYDNEY SAYS:04:33:36 AM Monday, 25th August, 2008
Matthew Mitcham winning the second ever gold medal in diving at Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, since Richmond "Dick" Eve won it in 1924 for plain high diving was my personal favourite.
CHINA CONSCIOUS FROM BEIJING SAYS:02:13:33 AM Monday, 25th August, 2008
Our favourite moment was hearing Rogge close the Beijing Games with the word “THESE GAMES HAVE BEEN EXCELLENT”, rather than “THE BEST GAMES EVER”, which the Communist Party was desperate to hear. The fact is that such a statement, now knowing the truth about the “Police State” modern China really is, would have been an insult to the Chinese people and the Free World. Can anyone in Australia accept the Australian Police arresting two elderly women because they applied for a licence to demonstrate in one of the Beijing Demonstration Parks, which were agreed to by the Beijing Government and the IOC. Can anyone accept the security police stationing a security watch (a big black police car, with specially tinted windows so that nobody can see in) down the street to make sure these dangerous 70 yr old grandmothers don’t make any trouble. Oh, and lets not forget, that both of these elderly women have been sentenced to 1 year jail, for re-education, without charge or trial. These games have been a complete farce, and if anything the Communist Party has done nothing but make the Free World more aware of the dangers of being too care free in dealing with a 21st Century Feudal State. I wonder what all the poor in China were thinking watching the Opening and Closing Ceremony, wondering to themselves......................Oh, so this is how the Beijing people spend our money. When will we receive some financial benefits from the Central Government. The US$2 trillion dollars, sitting in the Communist Party’s bank account is also ours isn’t it. Let us close our postings by thanking SBS for putting up with us. The Olympic Games was a tough project for us as we had to post in 6 languages, on many web sites. We apologise to any Australian who we have upset. Our only intention was to use this unique moment, which will never come again, to bring to the world a discussion on modern China which represented THE TRUTH. YES, it is true that China has made achievements, but this has also created hardship for others, with no more than 10% of Chinese people benefiting from the economic miracle. Let us hope the Communist Party learns to be “JUST”, for without such change, very soon, THE MANDATE OF HEAVEN, will slip from their hands, and the whole world will return to chaos.
