who killed the electric car? the AIR CONDITIONER!!! Would you sit in Melbourne traffic for an hour at 42 degrees without one? I don't think so. Why not just get a motorcycle, 5L/100km out of something that eats Ferraris for breakfast makes more sense, especially when you can put it on the road for less than$20,000. And if you want an economy bike....
Rain? we are not made of sugar, we won't melt!

Get the Ford Motor Company to give back to Australia the plans for a steam powered car that was fully developed by Mr Pritchard of Bayswater, Victoria. We've almost unlimited natural gas and we're surrounded by water. So what's the problem??

What the hell are we doing, pontificating about alternate fuels, when the technology to produce a steam powered vehicle is already here, refer to Ted Pritchards steam powered Falcon of the middle 60s. We have vitually unlimited supplies of natural gas in Australia, if we don't sell it all off overseas at around 5c a litre, and we're surrounded by water! There is the minor (!)problem of overcoming the oil cartels dictatorship, but surely sanity will prevail. Could we prevail upon the Ford Motor Company to release details of Pritchard's steam design?

I think its a little harsh to call two car ownership obsessive compulsive behavior. Isn't owning one sports car and one city car better than one outdated large "performance family saloon car"? What we should do is decrease tariffs and duties on imported cars. Bringing in more advanced and more economical European cars should not only reduce the environmental impact of car ownership but also force local manufacturers to up their game somewhat in producing actual quality cars.

I think Australians have disgustingly unhealthy relationship with their car, How can a person own more than 2 cars? its almost obsessive compulsive. One big problem is the inconvenience of public transport, I think the government should invest more on public transport.
CALLUM FROM ACT SAYS:12:32:47 AM Tuesday, 6th May, 2008
Australians do have an unhealthy obsession our vehicles but perhaps this is brought out by the environment we live in rather then some love affair with the act of driving itself. Brought up with hopelessly out of date public transport systems and having to often cover long distances there are few alternatives to that humble friend the family car.

Pity your research isn’t up to scratch .Nor are the statements made by some radical participants .One example of many inaccuracies serves to delineate bias..65% of pollution is caused by cars .Rot. 8% of 14% is all it is .Get less radicals and more even handedness.
As for deaths by pollution, that’s a 25 years old claim completely false. All you demonstrate is left wing wish lists..

No, a nonsensical question! Cars are a way of life in Oz, originally out of neccessity, then out of total enjoyment.

Some do. Not the issue i dont believe. What has been the major problem seems to be on a higher level. Petrol
YES. Its time to repartition public roads to give cyclists a safe space on all roads with a speed limit greater than 40Km/hr.
